Hello there?

More adventures, down under! :)

Photobucket

Early one morning, the neighbours from 63 (we are at 41) suggested some morning exercise. As Cheeleng, our resident sleeping beauty couldn’t get up at 6am, Alvin and I were 41’s only representatives.

Photobucket

Took a bus to a nature reserve for our hike!

Photobucket

Walking towards Brisbane Forest Park, we came across a romantic and RICH guy asking a girl out by writing words in the air! So drama-mama! LOL!

Photobucket

First we had to talk to some rangers to get a feel of the area and collect some maps.

Photobucket

Then, the journey begins!

Photobucket

Saw some really pretty wild flowers plus some random act of vandalism thinly disguised as declarations of love. -_-

Photobucket

Photo-time among lavender flowers… It isn’t really obvious but they smell good. ^^

Photobucket

Kimberley made sure we were all well fed throughout. With a constant supply of chocolate bars and lollypops… Her bag reminds me of Doremon’s treasure-filled pocket. Hehe!

Photobucket

Us, the hikers! :D

Photobucket

It was lunchtime when we finished the hike so we headed down to International House at Hanhui’s invitation for a fun fair! Yay!

Photobucket

Upon reaching one of UQ’s 10 hostels, we were greeted by a mass of colours… So happening right? Should I move here when my lease expires?

Photobucket

Bought coupons to buy various international cuisine…

Photobucket

Soon after we started eating, Cheeleng joined us.

Photobucket

After filling our stomachs, we went to play with chinese calligraphy and indian henna! ALL FREE!

Photobucket

Embracing other country’s cultures… Mine is the middle one!

Photobucket

On the 12th of August, actual EKKA day, we went to the carnival!!! This day was also made a public holiday so people could head down and enjoy some good, old, traditional fun. :)

Photobucket

Finally got my precious ticket after bugging the housemates for a whole week! Lalala~

Photobucket

The area was huge! And we even had to plan our “timetable” online the night before to ensure we could cover all the exhibits we wanted to visit. But I didn’t manage to milk my cow. Poo!

Photobucket

Food and shows took up most of the time. :)

Photobucket

Wanted to play one of those throw ball game to win a big plushie. But Alvin told me the game was rigged so I didn’t try. :(

Photobucket

In the crowds, I spotted Geri with her bunny ears!

Photobucket

What is EKKA without live animals? There was even an area where you could watch live animals give birth!

Photobucket

Of course there were shows where farmers pit their pets against each other for prizes.

Photobucket

The chicken competition was so big it was sort of scary. There was like “heavy weight” champions and the chickens in that category was so huge I wouldn’t even dare to eat it! But of course there are the cuter chickens that look like multi-coloured candy floss. Yummy! Haha!

Photobucket

The group I went with!

Photobucket

EKKA is also famous for its showbags…. Alot of silly things in one bag which I find pricey but people still whack and buy heaps. So yups!

Photobucket

I only bought 1 Pooh showbag which I really bought for the sake of buying because it seems to be the custom to be carrying something. Haha.

Photobucket

Bought some toys too! Alvin got quite sensitive when I went “quick, quick blow faster so it can become big and hard!” hahahahaha! Boys~ :P

Photobucket

Another famed tradition…. Strawberry cones for charity. :) after eating nice nice strawberry ice-cream, I was delighted to find real, fresh strawberries filling up the bottom of the cone…

Photobucket

After I raved so much about it, the rest went to try it too. (Note: the spontaneous Australians posing in the background.)

Photobucket

We also bought “angel” hairbands to wear around that day.

Photobucket

As it started drizzling, we left before the fireworks finale. :( but seeing a rainbow after returning to the city was an awesome consolation.

Photobucket

As it was still early, we headed down to South Bank wanting to catch The Ugly Truth but ended up watching G.I Joe instead.

Photobucket

South Bank, our frequent hangout for $6.50 movies!

Photobucket

That rounds up our once a year EKKA holiday. :) oh ya, it was today that rained ice too! What an adventure…

Photobucket

Managed to wake up early the next day for wet market shopping down at West End. Hibiscus juice is nice. :)

Photobucket

Evidence that I can cook!!!!! HOHOHO~

Coming here has changed me quite abit. Cheeleng says I have become ‘harder’ and the things I say is getting quite cutting. Maybe because life isn’t that smooth-sailing all the time and I hardly find the patience to sugar-coat stuff I say?

Zest says people grow up faster when they live overseas. I guess there must be some truth in it because stuff that used to bother me alot previously is forced to take backseat here when I juggle academic commitments with household duties on top of having to balance a daily budget.

This may not be a nicer Joy but hopefully, a more independent and stronger Joy??
