January Babies!

January 29, 2010

The first to grow older!!!! Attended two 21st parties on the first weekend of 2010. I heard that people who turn older in the first half of the year are more matured. Is that true???

First 21st birthday of the year goes to Jean!!!

Photobucket

Had lunch with the family before meeting the other girls for present buying. :)

Photobucket

We all love Japanese food!! Especially my pesky little brother who insisted on ordering the most expensive thing on the menu because there is no buffet on weekends and he claims he wouldn’t be full otherwise. Like price = satiated appetite. -_-”

Photobucket

At about noon, I headed down to meet Hanhui and Cheeleng to get helium balloons for the birthday girl! We got her 3 balloons, an Elmo to match the toy we got, a 21 because the glitter is so pretty and a Hello Kitty because the birthday girl just bought a limited edition Hello Kitty Fujifilm instant camera. And she doesn’t even strike us as a girly girl!!!

Photobucket

Walking around with a bunch of flying things got us alot of attention from girls who point at the balloons and nudge their boyfriends who pretended to not see, to kids who try to jump and whack the balloons. Tsk… The latter got me quite irritated, since when were kids so rude?!

Photobucket

Cheeleng had to go home to put the mayonaise she bought for Sunday’s party back in the fridge while Hanhui and I had chicken wings, mushroom soup and root beer float at the Ang Mo Kio New York New York. :)

Photobucket

Cabbed down to Jean’s crib for her checkered theme party.

Photobucket

Didn’t eat much because the earlier tea break had filled us up. So we chatted and just played with poppers and the balloons. Haha.

Photobucket

Then came the cake cutting time and it was amusing to see a toddler keep trying to reach for the cake. Cuteness to the max! We were also given champagne to celebrated her turning of age.

Photobucket

UQ undergraduates….

Left earlier as Cheeleng and I had to be up early the next day for DARREN’S SURPRISE 21ST BASH!!!

Yeaps, weeks of planning and the day is finally here! Met up with Zest and Thiam Hee earlier in the morning to collect the cake from Rive Gauche where the nice salesperson gave us alot of dry ice when she found out we were going for a picnic.

Cheeleng, Xueqin and Sengwang (who stays on the other side of the island) were in charge of the food and the decorations.

Photobucket

It was quite messy finding the right spot at the Botanical Gardens and I met Darren in town while the others got ready. Poor boy came in very warm clothes and looked so sad that the whole clique either forgot his birthday or was busy with other commitments. Our lies worked of course. :P

Had to treat him to dessert as the merging of the two groups took quite alot of time. We didn’t realise the park was so big!

Photobucket

He must think I am so random to suddenly want to go Botanical Gardens. But he obliged anyway… Easily bluffed lah him! Wahahaha!

When we reached the park I still have to pretend like I really wanted to browse the flora and fauna so he would not get suspicious. Even had to take photos to show my interest. Its hard to do that when the guys are like smsing me about my whereabouts the whole time!

Photobucket

At last, we passed the lake, the Ginger garden and reached the National Orchid Garden. He did look shocked alright…

Photobucket

Poor them had to sit in the sweltering heat for easily an hour before I arrived. Hey, some of them took Gerald’s car while Darren and I had to wait for public bus and walk all the way in hor!

Photobucket

Darren’s twin, Gerald. :P :P :P

Photobucket

My main concern was the cake not lasting beyond 2 hours (we took about 3 hours to get ready in total). Thankfully, it was a little melted but still not too bad.

Upon the blowing of his candles, we shot sparkling confetti into the air. I was quite surprised at this point (they didn’t tell me they bought that!!!!) and I was pretty worried at how we were going to clean up the mess.

Photobucket

But the worry was soon eased as kids drawn to the “bomb” sound started flocking by and picking up the pretty, glittery strips of paper. They were so so so adorable. Some even asked us for permission to keep what they had picked.

Before we knew it, the mess was cleared!

Photobucket

Some angmo children even came up to sing him a birthday song. So sweet! Darren’s couldn’t resist giving them some of his balloon decorations. :)

Photobucket

The whole hoo-haa brought the attention of the two nearby groups who were there celebrating birthdays too! They both gave him snacks as gifts, lucky him!

Photobucket

The highlight was eating the cake with our very limited cutlery.

Photobucket

And of course the egg mayonaise, potato salad and sandwich fillings prepared by our chefs of the day! Kudos to their efforts! :)

Photobucket

Needless to say there were plenty of leftovers we had to clear….

Photobucket

And what better way to settle them all without food wastage than to sabotage the birthday boy?! Disgusting though… He puked and lucky Cheeleng had the sense to prepare a plastic bag for him. LOL.

Photobucket

Ewwwwwww!

Photobucket

Been a long time since I had such outdoor activites but the stickiness got quite unbearable as the afternoon sun heated up. :(

Photobucket

I forgot what game they were playing…

Photobucket

Lazy bum bums!

Photobucket

Joined mats to play games with the neighbouring birthday girl.

Photobucket

Loser have to stuff 12 marshmallows into his mouth without chewing!!! Hahaha…

Photobucket

The poor birthday couple got drenched!

Photobucket

And sprayed at!

Photobucket

What was supposed to be a group photo never came true…

Photobucket

A more successful shot… All the 15 year olds!!!!! Darren sure looks at place. :P

Photobucket

Last shot before we had to head back as the army boys have to book in.. Sucks to serve the nation hur? :P

Photobucket

We were nice people who prepared new clothes for Darren whom we predicted would get really wet and dirty. So thoughtful hor? :P

Photobucket

Dinner was Grand Cathay’s Aston Specialities. I don’t know how the others looked so effortlessly pretty while I looked totally pooped! :(

Photobucket

I think the surprise party was a success.. Much thanks to the planners. :)

Photobucket

Darren di di! One lucky boy… Not only did he have a smashing birthday, he got presents and $70 worth of vouchers because we all know how much he needs to change his wardrobe. Hehehe…
